How Eczema Outbreaks Start
Various things can trigger an eczema outbreak. Some of the more common triggers include:
- Certain soaps, perfumes, and shampoos
- Chlorine and other chemicals
- Wool clothing and scratchy fabrics
- Changes in season
- Your own sweat and saliva
- Pet dander
- Plants and pollen
- Certain foods
- Stress
- Skin infections
You will find it difficult to avoid every eczema trigger, but you can train yourself or your child to be aware of triggers in the environment or in your home that can start an outbreak. Also, it’s worth remembering that irritants can enter your skin more easily when it is dry and damaged. The first line of defense against these irritants is to keep your skin well moisturized.
